The Education II is an integral part of the Education Strategic Investment Plan (ESIP). The Plan has been developed through extensive participation of key stakeholders (GoU, NGOs, CBOs and Donor Agencies), and is expected to move management of the education system closer to the point of delivery. The Project was first identified by a joint ADB/UNESCO mission in June 1997. Its objective was to introduce Integrated Production Skills (IPS) subjects in primary schools while strengthening at the same time relevant departments and services of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES). The project objectives will be delivered under four (4) components: (i) Primary School Building Programme; (ii) Primary and Secondary Education Curriculum Reforms; (iii) Gender Equity in Secondary Science Education; (iv) Project Coordination/Management. The project will be implemented over a period of 4 years (48 months), with a total cost (net of taxes) estimated at UA 24.87 million.
The project will assist the Government of Uganda to improve access to Primary Education and to reduce the existing gender disparities in Secondary Education. It aims to assure quality improvement in the provision of Primary Education, mainstream Integrated Production Skills in Primary and Secondary Education and to improve the quality of Science Education in rural girls’ schools.
The project is expected to benefit the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES) and the entire education system in Uganda.
