The proposed project fits in with the policy of the Government to provide Primary Health care (PHC) to all Ugandan. In order to help GOU to achieve the socially desirable aims of PHC (i.e. preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative services for all) the project will focus attention on all levels of the health care delivery structure. The intervention of the project at the upper level of the pyramid (tertiary level) will enable New Mulago Hospital to provide referral services to the entire health care system. The project comprises the following components: (i) Rehabilitataion of Health Facilities; (ii) Institutional Support, Training and Research; and (iii) Project Implementation Unit.
The objective of the project is to strengthen the health care delivery system in Uganda through the rehabilitation of Mulago Hospital Complex and selected primary and secondary health care facilities.
The project will benefit the Government of Uganda as well as the population, the doctors, nurses, midwives and paramedical cadres required nationwide for a successful implementation of the PHC policy.
