Project General Description

The Governments of Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone submitted to the Bank a financing request for the upgrading of the following road sections: Danane-Lola (87.35 km), Bloléquin-Toulépleu-Liberia border (65 km), Tabou-Prollo (28 km), Karloken-Fish Town (80 km) and Harper-Cavalla junction (16 km). The Mano River Union Road Development and Transport Facilitation Progam (MRU/RDTFP) involves the upgrading to bitumen standard of 276.35 km of roads in Eastern Guinea, West and Southwest Côte d’Ivoire and Eastern Liberia.

Project Objectives

The program's overall objective is to boost post-conflict economic recovery of the MRU area by improving road infrastructure and promoting intra-community trade. Specifically, the program seeks to improve transport conditions on the roads concerned in order to reduce transport costs, facilitate the free movement of persons and goods between the three countries, and improve the living conditions of PIA communities.

Beneficiaries

The program will benefit road users, transporters, farmers, the PIA population of 2.83 million inhabitants and the vulnerable groups in particular (women and children), which account for the greater majority.
