This project was conceived as part of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) Commission Community Infrastructure and Road Transport Program (PACITR). It consists of the rehabilitation and asphalting of the Gounghin - Fada N'Gourma - Piéga - Niger border section of the national road no. 4 located on the CU2a community corridor of the UEMOA road network. The project was initiated due to the advanced state of degradation of the above-mentioned section. It is also a project falling within the first strategic axis of the accelerated growth and Sustainable Development Strategy (SCADD) which aims inter alia the construction and rehabilitation of road corridors, to facilitate the transport of people and goods, as well as the flow of production. The estimated total cost of the project is UA 162.21 million or EUR 204.39 million or CFAF 134.059 billion. The project consists of the following components: (i) road works; (ii) related activities; (iii) transport facilitation; (iv) support to the transport sector; and (v) project management.
The sectoral objective of the project is to contribute to strengthening regional integration and the growth of intra-regional trade in the WAEMU zone. Its specific objectives are to improve the level of service of the road as well as the living conditions of the populations in the zone of intervention of the project (ZIP).
The direct beneficiaries of the project are the road users and the populations of the project area.
