Project General Description

The Bissau-Dakar Road Corridor Rehabilitation Project (Phase 1): Farim-Tanaff-Sandinieri Road Development aims to contribute to opening up of the hinterland, strengthening regional integration and reducing poverty. The project will strengthen past and ongoing activities financed by the Bank and other partners and aimed at facilitating transport (increase in the density of good quality roads, about 150 km of paved roads, tracks and bridges, interconnection of customs IT systems, reduction of the number of checkpoints, improved awareness and training of economic actors and operators, etc.). It will improve access to basic services, open up a large part of the Oio and Sédhiou regions, facilitate the connectivity of agricultural production areas and improve the quality of life and income of the populations of the PIA through the construction of integrated climate change-resilient infrastructure (20 boreholes and around 60 social, economic and commercial facilities, 36 of which exclusively aim to support women’s groups). The four main components of the project are: 1) Development of Roads and Bridges; 2) Integrated Facilities; 3) transport facilitation and 4) project management.

Project Objectives

Strategically, the project aims to Contribute to opening up of the hinterland in both countries, strengthening regional integration and reducing poverty.
