Project General Description

The feasibility study on business opportunities for women in a changing energy value chain in West Africa is funded by the NEPAD – Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility Special Fund (NEPAD-IPPF) and implemented by ECOWAS Centre for Regional Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE). The project includes the following components: (i) the first part of the project, i.e. the Pre-feasibility Study is focused on four countries, namely: Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal, as representatives of the ECOWAS region; (ii) the second part is preparation of four highly specific feasibility studies to promote financing of women businesses and organizing of an Investor Forum; (iii) the third part concerns Project Management. This Feasibility Study will be completed over a period of eight (8) months.

Project Objectives

The overall objective of the project is to ensure that the region meets its goal of universal energy access for its over 300 million people, by developing a high quality, gender responsive, regional energy market development strategy that taps into the innate entrepreneurial capacity of ECOWAS women, harnessing this capacity towards increasing the establishment of energy businesses and deployment of energy technologies to meet the energy needs of the region’s largely unserved population.

The project’s main beneficiary is the ECOWAS Centre for Regional Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE). The ultimate beneficiaries are the populations of the ECOWAS member’s countries.
