The project consists of the design, construction, launch and operation of a constellation of 12 medium earth orbit satellites providing affordable broadband connectivity to the unserved areas of the world, including: Africa. O3B will provide services to telecom operators, Internet service providers and other businesses requiring broadband connection, primarily in emerging markets and other densely populated areas of the world.
The project aims to help reduce the prices of Internet and mobile communications. It will also contribute to bringing connectivity to previously discovered areas. The project will also contribute to a doubling of the market for African satellite transponders for telecommunication services (excluding television).
The project will primarily benefit telecom operators and emerging market users. First, it will provide the necessary trunking capability for ISPs in remote areas to access international gateways. Secondly, it will provide the necessary backhaul capacity for mobile operators to extend coverage in rural areas.
