The programme is a UA 16 million operational and financial support to the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF). ALSF is an international organisation that is hosted by the African Development Bank Group (AfDB). The overarching goal of the ALSF is to help maximise resources available for the economic development and social progress in its regional member countries (RMCs). This is done by providing technical assistance to strengthen the member countries’ legal expertise and negotiating capacities in matters pertaining to the following: (i) Debt management and vulture fund litigation; (ii) Natural resource and extractive industries management and contracting; (iii) Investment agreements; and (iv) Related commercial and business transactions. The UA 16 million allocation will be strictly applied to eligible countries under Pillar III of the TSF. In this regard, the ALSF will provide legal services to all eligible countries in accordance with its operational and institutional strategic pillars. This proposal will be implemented within 2 years.
The objective of this support is to enhance the ALSF’s mandate and work which are closely linked to addressing issues of fragility and building resilience by providing countries support in critical areas, such as vulture fund litigation and advisory services that are complemented by capacity building interventions.
The main beneficiaries of this support is the Regional Members Countries in fragile situation.
