Project General Description

The Studies for an Economic Corridor between Nouadhibou – Nouakchott – Rosso – Dakar was designed to promote productive and commercial integration. The development of this structure and the transport facilitation measures planned under the same project will (i) permanently ensure the crossing of the Senegal River, and (ii) intensify trade well beyond the two country. Indeed, this structure will ensure long-term links between the Arab Maghreb Union and West Africa, through the junction between (i) the trans-African axes Cairo-Tangier Dakar, Algiers – Nouakchott – Dakar, and (ii) the Dakar-Abidjan-Lagos corridor. The study will focus on 5 components, namely: 1- Development of a treaty and design of the corridor management authority; 2- Improved transport and trade facilitation frameworks; 3- Elaboration of industrial and human development strategies as well as the identification of a priority program; 4- Development of a strategy for mobilizing funding resources for the priority program and 5- Development of a communication strategy and the engagement of civil society.

Project Objectives

The objective of the studies is to promote African productive and commercial integration. The sector objective of the study is to develop strategies, short and medium term action plans, and coordination institutions for: (i) the implementation of a value chain along the corridor and (ii) the establishment around the Rosso bridge of an integrated economic development pole.

Beneficiaries

The studies will benefit the authorities of Mauritania and Senegal and ultimately the populations.
