The proposed project aims at design, construction and operation of a 100 MW concentrated solar power (CSP) plant using parabolic trough technology and a superheated steam cycle, designed to store energy and to dispatch during the South African peak load demand periods, as well as during base load hours. This facility is located 30km north east of the town of Pofadder in the Khai Ma Municipality in the Northern Cape Province, will be connected by a 3km transmission line to a nearby, existing substation.
The Project objective is to: (i) stimulate the renewable energy industry in RSA and contributes to an energy mix diversification; (ii) enable BBBEE ownership in the Project.
The beneficiaries of the project are the South African companies, the local communities of the settlements which will benefit from the creation of up to 1,370 local jobs during the construction phase.
