Project General Description

The present project concerns a long term foreign currency line of credit (LoC) to support Standard Bank of South Africa’s (SBSA) project finance operations. It aims to promote Africa's growth and competitiveness through improved infrastructure and capacity building. The proposed LoC will be used exclusively on USD-denominated project finance transactions in Africa but outside South Africa, with a particular focus on infrastructure. The pipeline of projects to be supported by the LoC is composed almost exclusively of projects in LICs. They will increase economic output, generate incremental government revenues and create employment.

Project Objectives

The purpose of the project is to increase the availability of private finance for sustainable infrastructure and other productive projects.

Beneficiaries

The direct beneficiary of the project is the Standard Bank of South Africa (SBSA). In addition, the Line of Credit will benefit several African economies.
